I have organised a visit to the RAF Regt Museum at RAF Honington for Wednesday 25th July, in the afternoon.
There are a few places left - so if you are a member of the Broadland Greyhound & Whippet Club, would you be interested in attending?
The museum is not normally open to the public. As it's situated on the RAF airfield, it is only possible to visit the museum by prior arrangement.
I can probably accomodate a few people from the Dog club, so long as you are a member and are known to me.
If you wish to attend, I will need your personal details, plus car registration number - for security purposes and clearance.
Please email me if you are interested.
Below: Some pics taken at the museum earlier this year, when my father visited.
My dad is now 84 years old, and was in the RAF Regiment between 1941-1946, serving in the UK, India and Singapore. The first Anti-Aircraft gun below is a 40mm Bofors. This was the gun that my dad fired at Doodlebugs and passing Luftwaffe aircraft during WW2!
There's also a photo of him standing next to a Smith Gun, which was a rare, war-emergency weapon (similar to a mortar), which was towed behind a truck, and then turned on it's side into firing position. These are now incredibly rare, and this is probably one of the last examples in existence.
The museum also has some impressive vehicles, including a 1920's Rolls-Royce Armoured Car and a WW2 "Otter" Armoured Car, of which this is one of only a handful left:
Below: Memory Lane - My dad, with his Platoon pals in India, 1944. He's marked with an arrow mark in the first photo, and is on the front, left, on the second. He ended the war guarding Japanese POW's:
