Here's one for you SJ. See what you make of this. Below is a video of Jewel, at a live performance for a Canadian TV station back in 1997. This is early Jewel at her very, very best. It's a simple song - almost painfully simple - but Jewel performs it with a voice of an angel. Here's a lady, early on in her career, performing a song like this, which was totally out of keeping with 1997 America. But it was a song she wrote, and she loves (NB - I'm sure I read somewhere, that she wrote it for a friend of her's who was dying?). Anyway, this to me proves Jewel's greatness amongst her contemporaries, and even her peers. I rate her as one of the finest singer/songwriters of all time! For any singer to stand up there, with just guitar and voice, perform such a simple song, and put such feeling into it (as with this performance) - surely shows true, appreciable talent. There's just something so captivating about Miss Kilcher! As you know, I have such immense admiration for Jewel, and she's been one of my favourites for over five years now. I hope this rare video illustrates the point. Sit back and enjoy - This song is beautiful: www.youtube.com/watch?v=pYpVvCK477g

Couldn't resist putting another link to another superb Jewel song. I was watching an interview with her, and she said she had always wanted to write a love song, but didn't want it to be "cheesy". This was her finished result - "Break Me". This is the official video made for the song. There's another (and I think better) redintion of it on the DVD "Live at Humphry's", where she does it acoustically on her own. The video is good, and is a variation on the Michael Jackson theme. www.youtube.com/watch?v=yi2XxjrlqJw

Absolutely fantastic stuff Johnny. Angel Standing By is a classic demonstration of the power of Jewel's voice. Truly amazing! SJx
