I was reading this report about Jewel. I know she is quite political, and a Democrat supporter, and often tries to raise awareness of issues she feels strongly about. Apparently, ten days ago, she went to testify at a hearing before the U.S. Congress regarding youth homelessness in America. It's reported that as someone who was a homeless teen herself, this is an issue close to Jewel's heart. A link to her testimony is below. www.virginunite.com/view_content.phtml?id=335Johnny says - JEWEL FOR PRESIDENT!!!! She probably has more intelligence (and is a lot better looking) than George Bush! [/img]. Good for her though speaking out for something she believes in,
Well, he ought to. Jewel is indeed one of my two music godesses! I think Jewel is a truly amazing lady, who I greatly respect as an artist and as an individual. In 1998 Jewel set up an organisation called "The mission of Higher Ground for Humanity" to (and I quote): "promote human excellence by pioneering what it means to be a human being in the highest sense, inspiring new possibilities for humanity. Our aim is to join with others in the world community in assisting to create peace and generative prosperity for all peoples". From this came the Clearwater Project (link below): www.jeweljk.com/projectcleanwater/The Clearwater Project has taken on projects in South America, Central America, India, and Africa, building wells and water filtration systems. One such project was the reactivation of construction of a well through the use of a solar powered pump for on the Maasai people in the Sukenia region of Tanzania, Africa. Before Clearwater's involvement villagers were walking as much as 10 hours a day to fetch clean water. Other projects have taken place in Malakkara, India; Gualcea, Honduras; Sisoguichi, Mexico; and Bangladesh. I know that Jewel donates a set amount of her income to her charities. But - she never makes a big thing about it, and never tries to claim personal glory for it. To me, this really speaks volumes as to what type of person she is. You'd never see that sort of initiative from Victoria Beckham! Rock on Jewel (Johnny, in the presence of Jewel (and Dar) -> )
