Kitty & I have just got back from the afternoon out. We were very impressed by the dedication of the vet (Mr. Keith Hall) and the lady volunteer who run the Hallswood Animal Sanctuary, near Horsford. They have quite a range of animals there - many of which are quite unsuitable for rehoming (blind owls, gulls with broken wings, etc). Star was fascinated with the goats - I don't think he'd ever seen a goat before - he must have thought it was a big dog with horns! Sugar seemed to like the rabbits, and the lady showing us around had to laugh, when she saw Sugar looking at them, dribbling at the mouth. Needless to say, I didn't let her get too close, and we turned down her request to take one home as a pet! Residents at the sanctuary include - cats (54 of them!), dogs, rabbits, Barn Owls, Eagle Owls, Tawny Owls, ex-battery farm Hens, Goats, Deer, Pot-bellied Pigs, Budgies, Parakeets, and a beautiful Swan who has a pond to himself. It's amazing what these two people do. They take in, and do their best to save injured and abused animals, and I think they do a splendid job. A collection was made, and a donation of £20.00 was given on behalf of our club.
