We took Sophie to the vets some time last year and he said that her teeth were very plaquey! We asked how much it would cost to have her teeth cleaned... they went on to make us laugh and said OVER £150 Then I realsied he wasn't joking! They said she would have to be knocked out whilst it was done! We said thanks but no thanks for now! So I went to my local pet shop looking for doggy toothpaste and a tooth brush, they however offered me a cheap alternative.... For LESS THAN £1 we bought a hollow bleeched bone with a meaty filling and Sophie went nuts for it, you could hardly get her away from it and after about three bones (thats less than £3!) her teeth were alot whiter and the plaque had all but gone, it did make her gums bleed a little until they toughened up, but now she is fine. So thats my tip of the YEAR! Don't pay over £150 to your vet, goto your pet shop and buy a few of these bleeched bones and I guarantee for less than a FIVER (thats a £145 saving ) your dogs teeth will almost sparkle! Afterthought... I wonder why the vet didn't suggest that?

We actually bought one of those doggy toothbrushes. Kitty won't use it though, as our Gery's like the toothpaste so much - she's frightened of losing some fingers - so it's my job! ;D

I got a free sample of some stuff called Logic oral hygiene gel, I've not got round to giving it to munchy yet but it says on the packet it 'breaks down existing dental plaque and controls the bacteria responsible for its formation'.
You apply it directly into the mouth or on a paw so they can lick it off.
Its available from vet surgerys but i haven't a clue about price or whether it works anybody else tried it?

Pixie had really bad teeth when she come to live with us but a couple of bones soon sorted that out. I noticed today that Palace needs a bone too so a trip to the doggy shop will be happening soon We did buy the toothpaste & brush but neither of us could get Pixie to co-operate so it's still in the drawer
