On Monday 25th April 2005, at the White Horse Pub, Trowse - The Norwich Aviation Society (Johnny's other club), will be welcoming along the former Commanding Officer of 63 Squadron RAF, who will be there to give a unique film show relating to the ENGLISH ELECTRIC LIGHTNING, the RAF's first interceptor aircraft capable of a speed of Mach 2 (1,300+ mph) in level flight. The Lightning was an incredible plane for it's day, and when it entered service - it was the fastest aircraft in frontline service, anywhere in the world. It was also designed and built entirely in Britain! Our invited Guest was their C/O when they were performing during the 1963 airshow season, and he has some unique and wonderful cine film of these incredible aircraft filmed at RAF Wattisham. Their distinct red markings, and the Squadron's phoenix emblem earned them the name of "The Firebirds". The film show will start at 8pm. There will be a subscription of £1.00 per person payable on the night, which will go for paying for the room, with any surplus donated to the RAF Benevolent Fund. So, if you know of anyone who might be interested in attending - please let them know. It would be good to see them on the night.
