With the possibility of fuel protests on the way it would be interesting to here what people think on this subject. Personally I would be 100% behind a protest I know it would cause wide spread disruption, but I think something needs to happen. This will probably get Johnny going but if we are supposed to be a part of Europe then why do we pay more than everyone else in Europe? Germany is 90p France 80p Spain 60p I remem.ber the days of 60p a litre and i've only been driving 5 years!!! That a 10% increase a year for the last five years!! someones doing alright out of it, and it aint me!!!! **please note my figure are not official figures so please don't sue me if they are not 100% accurate!!

Well, you're right there Stuart - you shouldn't really get Johnny going on this subject, so I'll have to be very careful what I say, as this is a non-political club. But now you're asking the question, I'll answer it with my opinion. I think we pay too much tax in this country - overall. We are taxed on our income, we pay National Insurance (which is another tax), we pay car parking fees at NHS Hospitals when we visit our loved ones, we pay tax on war memorials that honour those that sacrificed all for their country, we pay car tax, we pay 75%+ tax on petrol, we pay 5% tax on gas and electricity, and we also pay approximately another further £1,000 per year, per household on another tax - Yes, the Council tax. But the good thing about those taxes - is everyone is aware of them. But the "other" tax we pay (£30 million per day minimum) is well-known, but rather more elusive. The fact that people do not know the "full picture" in this country - I find utterly amazing. It's been one of the best-kept secrets that the poiticians have held from us since 1975. OK, so everybody's heard of VAT? But does anybody here knows where it goes? Come on hazard a guess - the NHS, roads, job creation? Well, I'm not going to tell you directly - that would be political; but I'll give you a link to a BBC information page below, and if you read the part about the history of VAT - you'll see where VAT goes - and it's to an dubious, corrupt power base, whose authority we've allowed to become higher than that of our own Parliament! www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/alabaster/A528040 PS - Use your discretion to delete this post if you want Stuart. I'm sorry for posting this, but as you know - I am very opinionated when it comes to this subject, and I just couldn't help "biting" on this one!

Well I'm i'll and i only really got up for ice cream so my brain is alittle to fried to absorb that link. But I shall try tommorrow . I don't see any need to worry about threads being deleted... I'm sure plenty of people will be adding to this thread as i believe the actual protest is tommorrow

I did walk to work today... that was until I saw a bus come along and thought what the heck!! I was gonna walk home but my friend offered me a lift, so I thought... what the heck!! I know we are not a political club, but I think something like the price of fuel effects us all and I think we should keep the post going as its a hot topic at the moment!
