I am not liking this weather...... after last week I really want to get in the garden and continue planting seeds for flowers and veggies but it's way to cold. Is there anyone else that grows their own veggies? And Sara - how is your son getting on in the garden? I have just rabbit proofed my veggie plot. It make me laugh that I have two greyhounds and a rabbit problem! SJx PS Last year I had to replace some plants as Jack took great delight in digging them up. Hence everything is now Jack Proof!

Hi Sarah-Jayne, Glorious sunshine last week and we wake up to a blizzard this morning.. was a good wayto get the kids out of bed though by shouting, "Look kids,it's snowing!" They jumped out of bed like a shot to look outside usually takes agesto get them out of bed To be honest he hasn't done anymore in the garden since we last saw you.. he's too busy breeding Triops, some prehistoric prawn like creatures.. yuk

We used to grow chives, but we never got round to eating them, after Star took to cocking his leg up them! (PS-That's a true story by the way)

In your younger days I mean..? Whilst still living with your parents..? Till your father discovered what he really had growing down the driveway

I haven't got a garden any more. I've got a greyhound race track now instead. I had a herb bed until Tiggs decided to supplement his diet with margoram, basil, etc.. He doesn't c.o.c. k his leg on the chives - he eats them!!! (Johnny, how did you get away with saying "cocking his leg"? Surely this should be "thingying his leg"?) Thought I'd mention that Mum bought a pretty looking plant at the church garden party several years ago. It grew beautifullly in our garden until the window cleaner mentioned he could recognise cannabis from a mile away!!! I wonder if Tiggs would have preferred it t chives?

at the cannabis!!! I met a lady a few years ago who in the seventies used to throw her budgies seed in the garden, and noticed an interesting looking spikey leaved plant growing. She brought it in and grew it for months and couldn't understand why her teenage children were SO interested in taking cuttings........... someone eventually told her!!!! I definitely don't grow that, I'll stick to veggies! Ah the delights at having dogs and a herb bed - Jack always "thingy's" his leg at my parents bay tree - luckily mine is tucked away!! It's a beautiful day today and I'm off into the garden for some serious work..... Jack and Abi love it as they get to mooch around all day, sunbathing. SJx

It wasn't my Mum who chucked out the budgie seed, was it, Sarah Jayne?
Tiggy can't seem to "thingy" his leg on anything except the odd stinging nettle when we're out walking. I think it must be a racing injury - or he's a pshycologically imallanced male!!!! He just squats like a "pregnant dog" and lets rip. That's why we have so many bald patches in the lawn which have now merged to create a goal-mouth effect in our garden. And the say only "pegnant dogs" do this to grass, not males!!!
No point in my planting vegie. Tiggs would eat them all! (Anyone else got a vegetarian dog?) So far he's been very good and kept of my flower borders, though.
By the way, can you eat triops, Sarah?

Hehe, I don't think it was your mum Cathy!! But it could've been....... Last year I put a bark chip border at the bottom of the garden, and the hounds thought "great! A new toilet!" Some canes and loosely woven string soon stopped them........ am really thankful sometimes that greyhounds are no collies in the brains department!!! Hence veggie patch is netted but only about 2 ft - neither the rabbits nor Jack and Abi can fathom that out. Jack dug up one of my clematis last year but that's as veggie as he got. Abi has no interest in eating anything other than the finest cuisine, she's such a fussy little madam Sara - how are the potatoes? Hope he enjoyed being outside. If you're able to come on Sunday, I can catch up then on all things veggie!! SJx

We finally have some nice weather low 80's. Our flowers are starting to bloom but we could still have a cold spell. Our grass is turning green too, soon it'll be time to get the lawn mower out.
