This is not a party-political post. I'm simply offering another viewpoint when it comes to the established supermarket giant TESCO, who have just announced record profits of 2.5 billion pounds.
Now, please don't misinterpret what I'm saying. As a businessman myself (albeit in a very small sense), "Profit" should not be viewed as a dirty word.
However, what most people do not realise, is that TESCO not only enjoys the status of being the largest supermarket in the UK - they also hold a very privileged position under this current government, and the EU.
TESCO is not only a business - they are now having an undemocractic direct influence on what goes on in our local communities. They have become very powerful, and have a political clout that is completely unwarranted.
To prove the point, below is a link to the East of England Regional Development Agency's (EERDA) relevant page.

The EERDA are the unelected, unaccountable quango that has ever-increasing powers over what our elected local councils can (and perhaps more importantly can't do). Ever wondered how TESCO can get planning permission easily, whilst other businesses struggle? Well, this could be why! If you look down the list of those involved in EERDA, you will see TESCO's mentioned. Don't you think it strange that stores such as ASDA, Morrisons and Sainsbury's aren't listed? I'm not.
This shows a startling political bias towards TESCO, and in my opinion should never have been allowed.
Good luck to TESCO for making a profit.
That's what all businesses are there to do.
I wouldn't criticise them for that, but I would condemn both them and the Government's current policy of allowing them to have such a huge influence over our democratic elected councils.
I am very pleased to say that Kitty & I have avoided shopping at a TESCO store for over two years now, since we gained knowledge of the favoritism they enjoy from the UK Government, and the EU-backed, unelected Regional Assemblies.
