I don't know about you, but I've got quite fed up with modern phones.
They seem to be able to do everything for you now - phoning, texting, taking photo's, emailing, amongst probably many other things.
But for us old duffers, like Kitty & myself, we often warmly remember those earlier, more simple times - when telephones looked like phones (with real dials), and had a nice bell tone when they rung!
Well, meet "Annie" (named after Annie Cartwright in the "Life on Mars" series), our new phone - which we picked up from a car boot sale today.
It's an old GPO Model 746 telephone, designed in 1967, before Neil Armstrong had even stepped on the moon!
This example is in fully working order, and is dated on the base - February 1978, which makes it one of the last ones that were made. Just think - when this phone was made Abba were at No.1 in the charts with "Take a Chance on Me", and Kate Bush had just released "Wuthering Heights".
Oh, the nostalgia!
We can get the 1471 and 1571 features on this, it's just that we have to dial the numbers. We can't delete saved messages however, so I've got to fall back on my extension phone to do that.
Also, at the same car boot sale, Kitty picked up another 70's icon - An original "Space Hopper". She had one identical to this when she was eight, and bounced around the garden on it!
We really are getting into collecting 1970's stuff.
Who knows, before too long - a Ford Cortina might be on the cards!
PS - The cup with "John" on, near the phone, was given to me in 1965, when I was about one year old.
