OK, I know it's a totally self-opinionated statement - But Dar Williams has got to be one of the most talented singer/songwriters of all time, and yet hardly anyone in the UK has ever heard of her!
She's original, she's serious, she's intelligent, she's witty, she's a keen observer of human behaviour, and she's not afraid to put her thoughts and opinions on record. Her voice is beautiful, and she has a style all her own. It's nothing short of a criminal injustice that this lady is not played on mainstream radio, and her CD's are not available in the UK.

As many of you know - Johnny & Kitty are big Dar fans, so it's not surprising that we're giving her a "plug", especially as her new album is coming out in about three weeks time.

Here's a bit of info from her website - It gives an insight into another aspect of her "Echoes" theme. Although Dar's not well-known, she does do a lot to promote the charities she holds dear. I love the fact that she's very outspoken, and I bet is definately NOT on George Bush's CD player!

"In conjunction with the album release, her forthcoming tour, and the release of her first single "Echoes", Dar has organized the Echoes Initiative. Dar has selected markets on the tour and has worked with the promoters to identify small but very worthwhile community-based organizations in each of those markets. Through pre-show promotion, providing a presence for these organizations at her shows, and helping to raise money by providing some higher priced special tickets at each event, Dar is hoping to raise awareness and funds for these organizations. The work of these organizations truly echoes all over their communities, and by extension and example, all over the world".

Yes, she sounds OK. I like her new song too. They play it on Radio Braodland. It's a shame that they won't play Dar or artists like her.
I took along a Jessica Harp CD (with "Sound of Goodbye" on) and gave it to Jono Abel on Radio Broadland - I bet that ended up as a place mat for his coffee cup though!
