Here's a lady I'd strongly recommend that you check out. She's an English folk singer/songwriter who I believe has a beautiful quality voice. For those of you who are full members of the club, who knows? - you might actually be meeting this lady sometime very soon! (Johnny remains very cyrptic about this). A link to her website is below, which also automatically plays songs from her debut CD album "Singing Solo", and her second album "Spellbound":

She enjoyed playing to us, and commented that I had some nice friends (ie-you lot!). I believe she sold eight albums on the night, so no doubt some of you have been listening to her? She is a very nice lady, and it was a pleasure having her there.

I'd love to have Dar play for us. But that would be almost impossible, as she's hardly ever in the UK. Still, if I ever saw she was visiting England in May, some year - I would at least ask her! When Kitty and I met her at Bedford, she seemed a very genuine, grounded individual. There's no self-centred grandeur with Dar - she's just a nice, down-to-earth, intelligent, decent lady. She might upset a few people (ie-American Republicans) with what she sings about; but she's just got such an intelligent and talented way in which she says it - that's what I so love about Dar! Below: Johnny with his great heroine, the one-and-only Dar Williams (one of the finest folk singer/songwriters ever!) - Bedford, 2006. Yes, I was the ONLY one at the concert wearing an official Dar T-Shirt, which she noticed, and thought was "real cool"

Oh, on the subject of Dar - I'll post a link to a fan-made video on YouTube. It's her controversial (some would say Anti-Repubican/George Bush) song "Empire", very well put to clips from the Star Wars films. I think it's absolutely excellent. PS-Wait for the end credit song. It's wild and whacky, and made me fall about laughing when I first heard it! www.youtube.com/watch?v=VWUOCZFn9ZI

She's a lovely lady, and played a double set for us, as her support act didn't turn up. So, you can imagine how I felt - to have nearly two hours of listening to Dar, playing live, just (literally) ten foot from Kitty & I. It was one of the most memorable gigs I've been to.
