NOTICE FROM CLUB CHAIRMAN, JOHNNY:
This thread has been specifically created as a means to highlight greyhounds, whippets, lurchers and other "pointy" dogs that are seeking loving homes, ie - rehoming. It is not to be used to advertise puppies or dogs for sale.
It is primarily there to highlight the dogs currently being held by reputable organisations that are responsibly seeking to rehome dogs.
Please note, that it is NOT intended as a general "dumping ground" for anyone intending to conveniently get rid of their ex-racing Greyhound!
If we believe posts are being created for this purpose, we will delete them and ban such members.
Broadland Greyhound & Whippet Club supports the efforts of organisations such as Norfolk & Suffolk Animal Trust, Kerry Greyhound Connection, and other responsible groups who neuter, assess individual circumstances, make home checks and offers advice, ensuring dogs are rehomed in the most suitable environments.
Registered Charities: Registered charities and responsible local rehoming organisations are welcome to start a thread advertising a dog they have seeking a loving home. They may advertise up to two dogs at a time on seperate threads. The initial post should include a website and/or email address that the person responsibile for the dog can be contacted on, and as much information about the dog (Name, Age, Background, Temperament, any Problems etc). A recent photo of the dog would be very helpful.
Other Dogs: If you are an indiviual, with a dog that needs to be rehomed, we would strongly advise you to contact a responsible rehoming kennel in the first place, as they are the best people suited to this task.
We will allow individual dogs to be advertised here, on the condition that a rehoming centre has not been able to take them (due to lack of space), and that the person advertising the dog has contacted either Tanya or Johnny, who will assess and authorise such a posting. Any posts which have not been authorised will be removed, until permission has been granted.
The email addresses of Tanya and Johnny are - tanya.docwra@tesco.net and johnny@thegeryclub.co.uk.
On contacting either Tanya or Johnny, they will then supply you with their telephone number, on which you can call them to discuss the individual case concerned.
Responsibility: The club has created this thread as a means to highlight genuine cases of dogs seeking loving homes. It is not intended as a means of disposing of unwanted, ex-racing greyhounds from owners or trainers. If you are an owner/trainer we would encourage you to pass your dog onto the Retired Greyhound Trust, or other rehoming organisation, who then, in turn will be welcome to advertise him/her here.
As this facility is ultimately a means by which two third parties can contact each other, we do not accept any responsibility for any problems that might arise from that, as it is entirely outside our control. You use the thread with this in mind.
We would strongly recommend that if you are using this thread to acquire a dog, you should put preference towards acquiring the dog from a reputable rehoming organisation.
If you are contacting an individual person who has a dog for rehoming, please do not pass on too many of your personal details, and make sure you take someone else with you when you go to meet them.
Use your commonsense to assess the background to the situation, and please do not feel emotionally blackmailed by someone coming out with words like "well, if you don't take him - I suppose we'll have to have him put down", or words to such effect.
If you suspect that someone is using this board irresponsibly, then please report the matter directly to either Johnny or Tanya.
