In November 2006 a new law (Animal Welfare Act 2006) gained Royal Assent. This law is basically the adoption by the UK of the European Convention for the Protection of Pet Animals. Whilst there are parts of the legislation I am in agreement with, there also seems to be a deeper more sinister agenda - to drastically change or ban many breeds of dogs (see below): www.saveourbreeds.org.uk/breeds.htmThe actual Act itself can be found below: www.opsi.gov.uk/acts/acts2006/ukpga_20060045_en.pdfAs you can see, in the first link, the whippet comes under this due to a "named fault", although I can't see what that "fault" is meant to be? The first page I directed you to is a bit out of date, but it does tend to indicate that this is a bit of a "tardis" type law, ie - there's much more to it than you would've first thought. The Animal Welfare Act 2006, states that it is the most significant animal welfare legislation for nearly a century. It also states that it will: "reduce animal suffering by enabling preventive action to be taken before suffering occurs". Could this be interpreted as breeding out, what they look at as "faults" in dog breeds. If that is so, then we could here more about this in the coming months, as Europe steers us towards a "Euro Dog"!

Thanks for doing that. Let's see if anyone else knows that much about it.
