After reading through lots of old threads today I noticed one member fed her dogs chicken wings and necks. Ive always fed my dogs raw beef bones but this surprised me. When I thought about it it didnt seem so silly and id like to know more. What would dogs eat if wild anything they could catch I imagine and I dont suppose they would pick out the bones. Foxes eat chicken bones im sure. So I googled raw feeding and it seems plenty people feed there dogs chicken as nature intended but Im still finding this difficult to get to grips with and would appreciate any imput anybody might have before I dive in with my latest fad and end up at the vets accused of dog cruelty!!. Mostly I feed my dogs dried complete foods sometimes when I want to spoil them I cook turkey rice and vegetables.. Im wondering why do I cook it? and really are dogs supposed to eat rice?? And I know im told a complete food is best but really I dont think that can be true. My mum always said not to feed chicken bones to dogs because they splinter but beef bones splinter and these dont seem to damage.
Not looking for rights or wrongs here just curious

hi it is me whom feeds raw , i can honestly say i dont totally feed raw as i like them to have variety , so vistors to my house can often see me cooking a stew , that is not for vistors , its for the dogs !!! i go round the areas butchers and ask for waste meat nd bones , i buy in chicken carcasses these are less than £5 for a large box and usully arond 20 frames to a box , thats 20 days for your average greyhound!! also i buy cheap value chicken wings from tescos etc , pet mince is from butchers , fed raw or cooked , old veg and peelings get slung in the stew too , little bit of garlic assists in keeping fleas at bay and is known as natures antibiotic!! beef bones are excellent for teeth , as are lamb ribs or necks ? raw minced foods are available in many large pet stores in frozen form , day old chicks are also brilliant for dogs as a treat , much of my meat and bones is sourced for free , butchers have to pay to get rid of bones and waste meat , so you will be doing your bit of recyling too!!! you will noticed less poo , better breath and coats look amazing on raw , just take your time with changing over ? they tend to recover much faster when fed on raw too , any further help please pm me for my number and ill do what i can

Thanks for that.. I tend to cook my turkey and rice for the dogs but am more than happy to eat it myself and that makes the Amichien bonding a whole lot easier I did go down my local butchers and ask about waste meat the other day I get bones from him already but was talking to him about other waste he might have. When I suggested chicken carcasses he was saying "cant give dogs chicken bones, they splinter" and because I couldnt really argue he was wrong I left it at that. And he did say he would keep and mince any other waste which was very good of him and I agree with your helping the enviroment quote plus I always tend do buy a couple of pounds of sausages for the children when I go it encourages me to shop local too (and his sausages are very good!) I was saying to my partner Chris today about the amount of waste that is coming out of the dogs at the moment. Theyve been on Bakers the last few days and not only is there vast amounts of poo it seems to be a gray green. It must be much like living on pot noodles. God im turning into a woman who talks about poo for kicks!!

I wonder if you could just clarify for me what you do with the chicken carcasses and what they consist of? Do you just feed this as it comes or mince and use to cook? Im finding this very interesting

Thank you Id seen the BARF diet book mentioned in my google search I will see if I can pick it up. Ive been thinking about this and the fact as a rule we believe you mustnt feed chicken bones to dogs because it can puncture their stomachs intestines etc.. etc.. do you believe that this is a possibility and you make calculated risks because of the benefits to your dogs with feeding raw or do you believe its something completely fabricated buy the petfood industry because poultry is cheap and they want our money? Its seems strange that something that considers cat**** a delicacy would struggle with chicken!!!
